Curriculum & Education

Overview

Residents spend most of their time on the Galveston campus, which includes 3 interconnected hospitals that provide a comprehensive learning experience in diverse clinical settings, including traumatic emergency care and specialized neurological services.

Application

To apply to the UTMB Neurology Residency Program, applicants must submit their application via ERAS by December 1. Interviews are conducted in January and February. Please ensure all materials, including letters of recommendation, are submitted by the application deadline.

7 locations: Jennie Sealy Hospital, John Sealy Hospital, TDCJ Hospital Galveston, Clinics at Galveston Campus, Clinics at Clear Lake Campus, MD Anderson Cancer Center, Texas Children's Hospital.

Fellowship

The program offers several fellowship opportunities, including Clinical Neurophysiology Fellowship, Neurocritical Care Fellowship, and Vascular Neurology Fellowship. Resident Life

Overview

The UTMB Residency Program in Neurology offers excellent clinical training which involves caring for the most medically complicated and challenging patients in the Galveston area. Education is a central dogma of our department and residency. Residents participate in a variety of educational activities including a rigorous Morning Report series, epilepsy surgical conferences, EEG reading lecture series, Neuromuscular lecture series, Neuroendovascular conference, professional development opportunities, quality improvement projects, faculty mentorship and research faculty mentorship. Our diverse faculty has trained at premier programs across the country, bringing their experience and knowledge to U.T.M.B.

On Call Schedule

Neurology residents have dedicated on call room at the Jennie Sealy Hospital with a computer workstation, television, telephone, and a bed with attached bathroom and shower. This room is for sole use of neurology residents on call/overnight.

Housing

The residency program offers support for housing, including a housing stipend to help cover costs. Residents are encouraged to find accommodations near the Galveston campus, where multiple options and resources are available.

Alumni

Alumni from the UTMB Neurology Residency Program have pursued fellowships in Neuromuscular Medicine, Epilepsy, Vascular Neurology, and Neurocritical Care. Graduates have gone on to practice in academic institutions, private practice, and specialized clinics across Texas and other states.

Salary & Benefits

PGY-1 Salary

$58,000 annually (subject to change). Additional benefits include a housing stipend and comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage.

Vacation

Residents are entitled to 3 weeks of vacation per year, which may be taken in 1-week increments. Unused vacation days can be carried over to the next year, subject to program approval.
